Biography
![]() | Roberto Salazar Ramon Barrientos I was born in San Jose, District La Merced, the July 7, 1950. At the age of 4 and 5 years I lived in Escazú in a humble adobe house, the other part of my childhood was lived in Linda Vista Tibás, Copey of 5 Corners, Under The Rodriguez that now bears the name of Santa Monica Housing Tibás Llorente. In this place, I went to primary school Anselmo Llorente La Fuente, where I received the diploma in 1963 (Primary). At that time I was awarded scholarship to the Lycée Tibás Mauro Fernandez, I refused the aid because of that we were a large and poor family which consisted 12 children (7 women, 5 men), of which I was the oldest so I decided to help my dad in the fruit trade in the market Bourbon. |
| My father saw that I had a knack for drawing since the age of eight, and books that filled the school, decided to look where I could study drawing, at that time there was only the artist's home or the School of Fine Arts, but this was only for adults. My dad talked to the Administration, for allowing me to attend as a listener. Because of this in 1963 and 1964 I had the good fortune to meet artists and teachers such as Professor and sculptor Nestor Zeledon, Prof. Guillermo Jimenez, Prof. Lola Fernandez, Ms. Zulay Soto, Prof. Claudia Jimenez, and she was the one who gave me the first classes in drawing, painting and sculpture teacher and writer barro.Con Mr. Carlos Salazar Herrera received lessons in drawing and perspective. these classes helped me develop as a draftsman and designer, who was my only study after leaving the school. 1967 I started working at Universal Printing and Lithography in which I worked as a pressman and then in 1975 went to the Department of Art with Arturo Bolaños painter who was my boss at that company until 1976, that same year I started to work as artist and art chief of the newspaper La República until the end of November 1977. Then I went to work that year MERCATEC Advertising Agency as a draftsman and designer, shortly after the Art Director of the same who later became MGM (Mercatec Gutierrez Machado) until the end of 1986 to go to work at a company that is dedicated to the development of directories and magazine called publised in the company I worked until 1989. In that year I set to work providing service only art, design, screen printing and Advertising Mantas several advertising agencies and companies, as Mckann Erickson, Advertising Ureña, Firestone, Vargas Lithography, Lithography Trejos, Sepacolor of Costa Rica, among others; which he did until 1999, after dedicating the typical landscape design in relief and sculpture in clay to apply the same ceramic parts such as plates, standing lamps and paintings of different sizes, being this is what motivated me to paint the landscape Costa Rican typical watercolor technique. I consider myself self-taught, since I have not received any kind of such a technique for which I bought books to practice in 1986. In 1999 and 2002 years I made 20 small landscape (postcard type) inspired by my childhood in Lower The Smiths where I spent the happiest days of my life in an adobe house. Here I met many friends and enjoyed with them the day after school and homework were playing spin, Bolinches, chocolate and mejengas until it was night and then play hidden. At year-end holidays were going to get coffee for December buy clothes, stationery and school uniforms, beautiful experiences I had from 1958 to 1972 and so far not olvido.Unos years later, we moved to San Miguel de Santo Domingo de Heredia, another adobe house . In October 2002 I began to devote more time to do watercolor and larger formats motivated by family, friends, painters, motivating me to keep going and so I ask God to give me life to do now what I like, but I have started at 53 years of age.
